Gateway Coalition is a funder collective- directing resources to organizations providing abortions and wraparound care services to patients in the Midwest.

FOR MORE INFORMATION

It is a fundamental human right for women and child-bearing people across the US, and in particular, Midwest states, to have easy access to affordable, private, reliable and most importantly, safe healthcare across the board.

FUND OVERVIEW

The Gateway Coalition was developed in direct response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. This decision has had detrimental effects on the entire nation, and the majority of the Midwest has been left without safe, accessible options for critical reproductive healthcare.

The goal of Gateway Coalition is to direct funding to various organizations working on the ground to provide accessible care to women who need it most. Illinois has been a haven for people searching for safe and legal abortions in the Midwest, and the state has already seen a heavy influx of patients. This comes with a fear that the current 35 abortion providers in Illinois1 won’t be able to keep up with the increasing demand.

Our main objective for this fund is to support access to reproductive health care by utilizing and funding Illinois and key work in other Midwest states’ frontline organizations via unrestricted gifts.2 We know that there are countless organizations who have been leading this fight already, we aren’t reinventing the wheel. Rather, Gateway Coalition is a vessel for untapped funds and donor confidentiality. It is crucial to leverage the institutional knowledge of the many organizations on the ground already doing this important work. Nobody knows what is needed to support the patients more than them. Unrestricted gifts to these organizations is the most effective way to best serve their needs. Our goal is to support them in doing what they do best – and to give them the runway to serve their greatest needs, whether it be providing travel costs for patients, medical care, or even just helping to keep the lights on.
